A free screening of the documentary, From First to Worse, Wednesday, March 28, 7:30pm in the High School theater. This film outlines the risks to public education when funds are limited and shows how communities can save their schools. Babysitting will be available. Background:
The Viking Foundation Launches “The Campaign for Our Schools”

The Viking Foundation is dedicated to maintaining and enriching the educational environment in the North Shore School District. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors whose members are volunteers drawn from all segments of the community. They work closely with the Board of Education and our residents.

Revitalized in 2011, The Viking Foundation, through private donations and fundraising initiatives, stepped forward to help counter recent trends. These include funding restrictions, growing operating costs, high property taxes, and the N.Y. State imposed tax cap which have forced school districts to seek alternative sources of financial support.

The Campaign for Our Schools was launched in November with generous pledges now totaling $1 million. The Viking Foundation is actively working to reunite alumni, community members, and local businesses in a collaborative effort to widen involvement and endow our schools for the future.

The goal of the capital campaign is to raise at least $3 million in private contributions, gifts and pledges by the end of this year. These funds will be used to help maintain the quality of our schools for our children.
