North Shore PAL Roller Hockey Smurfs
A number of North Shore students are active in the North Shore PAL Roller Hockey program called “Smurfs”. This program is run purely by volunteer high school students who earn community service for their time and efforts. For the 2015-16 year the Division Heads, who coordinate and oversee the program, are two North Shore High School Students, Justin Durka and Ryan Swiezbin. Junior Noah Veiga is also an active participant. The purpose of this program is to teach kids ages 4 to 9 years of age to skate and learn the basics of roller hockey. For the fall season there were over 20 kids enrolled in the program. Volunteering for this program takes a lot of patience and when you look at the progress from the beginning to the end of the program, all their hard work is apparent by the level of improvement in the kids.
