Legislative Action Committee (LAC)?

Do you want to join the North Shore Schools Legislative Action Committee (LAC)? Up to three positions are available and the application deadline is May 18th. The North Shore Board of Education established the Legislative Action Committee, or LAC, as a Citizen’s Advisory Committee of the Board for the purpose of researching, proposing, and executing approved advocacy approaches to legislative matters that have a direct bearing on fiscal or educational aspects of the North Shore Central School District.

LAC is composed of eleven (11) community members with varying interests,
experience and expertise. LAC communicates with community members via a number of ways including letters, emails, school events, community groups, LAC meetings, and the LAC webpage at http://www.northshoreschools.org/Board_of_Ed/LACpage.html (under LAC in the Board of Education section). Completed applications can either be brought or mailed to the North Shore Schools Board of Education at 112 Franklin Avenue, Sea Cliff, NY 11579. Please attach any additional information and a resume (if available). They can also be emailed to nsboe@northshoreschools.org. A direct mail piece for all North Shore School district residents will also be available.   

At the direction of the Board of Education, past efforts included the following: LAC conducted research, engaged in multiple communication campaigns with community members, and initiated many advocacy efforts with state and local representatives regarding:

The Decommissioning of the Power Plant, Unfunded Mandates, Teacher Evaluations/APPR, Charter Schools, Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) which as a result of statewide advocacy efforts has been permanently eliminated effective with NY State’s 2016-2017 budget, Joint Legislative Efforts with Neighboring School Districts, and Hosted a Legislative Night and Breakfast at the North Shore Schools with our NYS Legislators.

In the upcoming school year, with the Board’s approval, LAC will continue to address the following legislative actions and advocacy efforts. We encourage our entire community to stay informed and to join us: Unfunded Mandates, Adjustments to the current Tax Cap Formula, changes to Unfunded Mandates, Adjustments to the current Tax Cap Formula, changes to the Teacher Evaluations/APPR, and NY State Testing - just to name a few!
