The newly passed tax legislation and Governor Cuomo's Executive Order issued on December 22, 2017 has created questions regarding the ability of our residents to prepay portions of their school taxes prior to January 1, 2018. Please note that the second half of your 2017-2018 school taxes may always be paid before December 31, 2017 via the Receiver of Taxes of the Town of Oyster Bay.
We have researched this issue and after receiving advice from our attorneys, we wanted to advise all of our North Shore residents that the current order by Governor Cuomo facilitates the prepayment of unpaid property taxes for the current 2017-2018 school year. It does not authorize the prepayment of school taxes for the 2018-2019 school year. Simply put, because the Board will not present a 2018-2019 operating budget to our voters until May, it is impossible for the District to issue a 2018-2019 tax warrant in advance of authorization from our taxpayers.
That said, the Town of Oyster Bay is currently accepting payments for your 2018 General Taxes and the 2nd half of your 2017-2018 school taxes. In order for you to make the most informed decision possible regarding your household's individual tax situation, we are attaching specific instructions on to how do so, which are located on the Town of Oyster Bay's website. You may access the information here. Any and all questions should be referred to the Receiver of Taxes, Mr. James J. Stefanich.
