It was a warm September day for the North Shore Schools 2017 Homecoming Celebration on Saturday, September 16th. From toddlers to senior residents, the Homecoming Celebration offered something fun for everyone! Thank you to the entire North Shore community for making this day a huge success! In addition, congratulations to the NS Vikings Football team for triumphing over Carle Place, 28-7!
To kick-off the day at 10:30 a.m., students and their families participated in a wonderful Homecoming Carnival with fun games for all ages. It included inflatables, face painting, a train ride for the younger children, a photo booth, football clinic, live music, DJ, and much more! Special this year, was “Selfies with the Superintendent, Dr. Peter Giarrizzo and “Dunk the MS Principal, Mr. Rob Dennis.” For hours, children happily engaged in all of the fun games and activities. The live music included our North Shore talented musicians. You could see the joy on everyone’s faces as their parents joined in the fun! But, that wasn’t all! The Athletic Booster Club grilled delicious food for everyone to enjoy at the concession stand, and the HS PTO sold various North Shore merchandise in support of our schools and programs. Many thanks to the Homecoming Committee, the parent associations, Key Club, and all of the community groups who helped make this day a wonderful success.
At 1 p.m., a mini parade assembled on the track of High School Stadium led by the American Legion Glenwood Landing Post 336, followed by the high school drum line, cheerleading team, robotics club, and members of the Board of Education including Superintendent Dr. Giarrizzo, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Rob Chlebicki, and Assistant Superintendent for Business, Olivia Buatsi. North Shore High School students showed their school spirit by wearing Viking helmets and Viking colors (maroon and white) while clapping and waving to those in the stands.
Elementary children and teachers from Glenwood Landing, Glen Head, and Sea Cliff enthusiastically held banners and walked with their respective principals including Mrs. Bridget Finder, Mrs. Lori Nimmo and Dr. Chris Zublionis. North Shore Middle Schoolers marched with Principal Dennis and Assistant Principal Rachel Green, while High School Principal Albert Cousins and Assistant Principals, Dr. Kevin Kurrus and Ms. Jen Imperial, accompanied their students. In addition, the HS Homecoming King & Queen proudly waved to the crowd! Residents and community members happily cheered in the stands for all those in the parade. Also, the Sea Cliff/Glen Head Fire Departments were in the parking lot for the Homecoming Fan Fest!
At 2 p.m., the stadium was packed for the pre-game show including the fan favorite Fun Run, Pulse dance performances, and cheerleaders. David Soto, the High School Band Conductor, led the NS Pep Band and drum line in the “Star Spangled Banner.” Then the mighty Vikings charged onto the field to a thunderous round of applause. Congratulations go out to the Vikings Football team and their coaches for an exciting victory, beating the Carle Place Wild Frogs 28-7!
Many thanks to everyone for this wonderful 2017 North Shore Homecoming Fan Fest!
