North Shore MS Celebrates Diversity and Acceptance at the 2nd Annual Culture Fest
At the end of May 2018, the North Shore Middle School Student Government held their second annual NS Middle SchoolCulture Fest - a way to celebrate diversity and acceptance in the middle school cafeteria.
To kick off the event, sixth graders led by Mr. Bryce Larsen played percussion instruments and drums followed later by the eighth graders symbolizing music from around the world. At the event, there was a popular henna tattoo station, an origami station, and a delicious juice bar where students could order refreshing drinks with various toppings and an umbrella –just to name a few! One student proudly said, “This drink reminds me of my home.” There was also a friendship bracelet station where students were given multicolored string to create their own bracelets to promote peace and acceptance. In addition, students and faculty were invited to make and/or donate food representing their heritage. Cultural dishes included meatballs and pizza (from Italy), rice and beans (from Mexico and South America), potato latkes (from Eastern Europe), and fried rice (from China).
Throughout the Culture Fest, the MS Student Government under the leadership of Ms. Michelle Abel along with faculty and friends worked hard to create a special event that embodied the core values of E3 (Everyone Matters, Everyone Cares, Everyone Learns) taught at North Shore Middle School.
Overall, the event was a success, and the Student Government hopes to do it again next year. Thank you so much to everyone who donated food, time, and/or support to the North Shore Middle School Culture Fest.
