Multimedia Students Create Original Beverage Campaigns

North Shore High School Multimedia students in Ms. Laura Green’s class learned how to develop a Beverage Campaign by creating logos, labels, slogans, and three-dimensional bottles. Students were allowed to create an original beverage (e.g., including water, sports drink, soda or iced tea) of their choosing using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Additionally, they had to develop impactful magazine ad and billboard to advertise their new beverage brands.
The Procedures

  1. Students had to conduct research on a beverage of their choosing
  2. Then sketch an original logo, label, and bottle on paper and get teacher approval
  3. Students had to design their logos in Adobe Illustrator (size: 4”x4”)
  4. Each student had to create a “catchy slogan” to use in their advertising campaign for their new beverage
  5. Students then had to design original labels (9”x3”) in Adobe Illustrator that best represented their beverages with the following details: the beverage information, nutritional facts, bar code, fluid ounces, recycle logo, slogan, logo and high-quality, stock photography images and textured backgrounds
  6. Students then had to create a 3D bottle using Adobe Illustrator 3D effects, lighting and shading.
  7. Next using Adobe Photoshop and paint brush effects they had to design an ad and a billboard for their new beverages with their original logos, slogans, and stock photography image(s)
  8. Lastly, the Multimedia students presented their new beverages to their peers utilizing PowerPoint presentations

Multimedia teacher, Ms. Green said, “The beverage industry is filled with a multitude of energy drinks, teas, smoothies, and more, I wanted my students to really think about what makes their brand different? How can they sell a new product? Because, it’s said ‘not to judge a book by its cover’, it’s often a beverage's branding that sells it the first time, not its flavor.”
In addition, Ms. Green took her Multimedia class on a field trip to A+ Signs /Graphics in Glen Head owned by Bill Manfredonia. There students: Arvind Badesha, Sofia Barbetta, Stanley Chan, Nicholas Dey, Dylan Kenny, Nicholas Manfredonia, Daniel Perez, Jhett Suzuki, and Thomas Van Patten learned aspects of digital printing and watched their labels get printed on a professional laser jet large format plotter printer. Students then had the opportunity to put these authentic, four color, digital labels on real bottles! Additionally, students were able to participate in a printing technique called masking and helped make key chains with their names on it.
