Glen Head School Experiments with Science Saturday

Over 100 Glen Head Elementary School students ventured into the cold for exploration and experimentation for Science Saturday! Students engaged in hands-on activities not typically experienced in the school setting. These young scientists’ dissected squids, produced enzymatic reactions, created transpiration models, and observed flaming chemicals with the help of Jane Powel from Omnilearn, the country's premiere science enrichment program.

Students also conversed with scientists from around the world in the Skype a Scientist station! Anthropologists, chemists, and biologists from Duke University, Oxford University, and Emory University were available virtually to share their research and answer student questions. The event also featured a Brain Booth led by neuroscientists from Rutgers University; students collaborated with each other and the scientists to create neural networks made of pipe cleaners. The excitement and engagement at Science Saturday was amazing!
