1st Joint Districtwide Parent Organization Meeting
with Guest Speaker, Superintendent Dr. Giarrizzo
On November 13, 2019, the parent groups of the North Shore School District collectively hosted the 1st Joint Districtwide Parent Organization Meeting at Glenwood Landing School with guest speaker, Superintendent Dr. Peter Giarrizzo.
To begin the meeting, the Coordinating Council Co-President Natasha Fried- Gordon thanked all of the hosting North Shore parent organizations including the Arts Angels, Athletics Booster Club, SEPTA, NSHS PTO, NSMS PTSO, GWL SCA, SC PCA, and The Viking Foundation for organizing this meeting. She also thanked everyone in the audience for coming. After the introductions, each of the parent groups introduced themselves and discussed their roles and the latest events and activities of their respective groups.
Then Ms. Fried Gordon introduced Superintendent Dr. Peter Giarrizzo who spoke and answered questions regarding the upcoming 2019 Bond Referendum in which Trustees proposed a tax neutral bond for $39.89 million for the long-term financing of key capital projects and enhancements. The priorities of the Bond Referendum include Safety and Security, Infrastructure, Instructional Spaces, Air Quality and Cooling of Classrooms/Learning Spaces, and Health and Wellness. The community will have the opportunity to vote on the Bond on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. After Dr. Giarrizzo spoke, members in the audience were invited to participate in small groups and ask any specific questions about the bond.
In addition, children were invited to attend a Pajama Storytime in the Glenwood Landing School library. Many thanks to members of the North Shore High School SGO (Student Government Organization) for engaging their younger peers in the reading of many popular children books.
Dr. Giarrizzo thanked all of the parent groups and stated, “You have my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for organizing tonight’s event. As amazing partners to the children we share, I can’t emphasize enough how fortunate the NS community is to have you all leading your organizations forward.”
