Congratulations North Shore Commended Students in the
2017 National Merit ® Scholarship Program
Principal, Albert Cousins of North Shore High School recently announced that Joseph Doyle, Jacqueline Thoet, and Sang Muk Yun were named National Merit Commended Students in the 2017 National Merit ® Scholarship Program. They are being recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for entry. Over 1.6 million students took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test) last October and entered the National Merit Scholarship Program, a nationwide competition.
Approximately, 34,000 high performers nationwide are being named Commended Students on the basis of a national Selection Index score (209). A Letter of Commendation was presented to each of these scholastically talented North Shore seniors by Principal Cousins. Although they will not continue in the 2017 competition, these students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition.
“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Program. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
